Agricultural Workers Dwelling

Cobblers Farm is the home of Hannah Moule and her family. Hannah is the founder and director of The Rural Planning Co. Here, with her husband they started a farm from a greenfield site and turned this into a fully functioning, profitable farm in just 5 years.

They achieved planning permission for a temporary Agricultural Workers Dwelling (also known as  Rural Workers Dwelling) in the form of a log cabin and then subsequently achieved permission to build a four bedroom oak frame house where building work has now started.

Hannah was instrumental in strategically approaching the planning in the right order to achieve a successful outcome.

Summary

Fruit grower and contractor, Rob Collins, and his wife, Hannah Moule are both from farming backgrounds but had no prospect of returning to family farms. They were passionate about creating the farming life they came from. Without sufficient capital to buy a fully equipped residential farm, the couple set their minds to building their own farm, from scratch, on a greenfield site.

With only 40 acres, they knew there were only a small number of enterprises which would be viable on such a small acreage. Both having experience with cattle they settled on calf rearing and built two general purpose sheds, muck pad, drive, yard and infrastructure. They then got permission for a rural workers dwelling in the form of a log cabin in 2017 and four bed house in late 2021.
