Permanent Agricultural Managers Dwelling

Our client was working with his father in a labour intensive dairy business. However, he lived with his family a distance from the farm, a trip he sometimes made up to 8 times per day and this was unsustainable.

We demonstrated that without on site accommodation, it was unfeasible for this to continue without significant harm and detriment to the welfare of the livestock and financial viability of the business. He needed to be able to see the cattle many times a day, to be able to hear and listen for problems and react to immediate issues.

Alongside additional planning applications for agricultural barns, this application demonstrated a functional and essential need for a permanent rural workers dwelling on the site.

Our client worked with his father in an intensive dairy rearing business. Due to the labour-intensive nature of the farming enterprise and the need to closely monitor the livestock our objective was to put together a successful planning application for a dwelling on on site for him and his family.

The SWDP (South Worcestershire Development Plan) and NPPF (National Planning Policy Framework) supported this application in principle. However, it was important to effectively demonstrate not only the essential and functional need for the dwelling but also highlight the lack of alternative, affordable accommodation in the immediate area.
